Blog Post #3 - Book Creator

 Hi All!

As I walked into school Friday morning through the seemingly never-ending car line, I heard shouts of, "Happy Birthday, Library Lady!".  It's wonderful to feel loved by all the littles in our school!  Today is my 60th birthday and we are celebrating in Nashville!  We've never been here before and it is fun!

On Collette Cassinelli's blog, EdTech Vision, I found a wonderful tool that I have never seen before but should have.   It is called BookCreator and it is a real gem!

It can be used in all subject areas to make multimedia digital books.  It is easy enough to use with Kindergartners but engaging enough to be used with 12th graders and up!  The students can combine text with audio, visual, photos, and drawings.  When complete, you can download it as an ebook or print it as a PDF file.

You can try it out for free and create 40 books, but there is a cost to using it as a classroom teacher for $10.00 a month.  A school or district can ask for a quote on pricing.

I was thinking about using this with 2nd/3rd graders to create books about non-fiction text features.  The children could create their own non-fiction book and then highlight and explain the text features they used in their books.

This is the blog post that Collette Cassinelli discusses Book Creator.

Within the blog, she shares a google slide presentation that she did for a workshop and it is worth taking a look!

There are so many wonderful tools out there that integrate technology into the subject areas and I can't wait to continue to explore!

Now I'm off the Country Music Hall of Fame in the wonderful city of Nashville, Tennessee!

  1. This resource has so much potential! While looking through blogs this week I discovered an awesome resource made with Book Creator. I also had never heard of and haven’t used Book Creator. The resource was a digital book of web tools and apps linked here: https://www.bunheadwithducttape.com/the-digital-librarians-survival-toolkit.html There are endless possibilities for how we can use Book Creator as educators. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Oh, this is definitely a resource I will be utilizing. Thank you for sharing this! This reminds me of the online tool called Story Jumper. I really enjoyed looking through the Google Slides presentation that Collette Cassinelli included in her blog post about Book Creator. It was helpful in connecting the AASL standards to instruction and giving ideas for use in the classroom. This would also be a great tool to connect different content areas.
